Punjab Tourism At A Glance

Punjab is the one of state in India in the northern zone. This state is bordered with Jammu and Kashmir to the north, Himachal Pradesh to the east, Haryana to the south and south east, Rajasthan to the south west. The name Punjab is composition of two words Punj (Five) + Aab (Water) i.e. land of five rivers. These five rivers which flow from Punjab are Sutlej, Beas, Ravi, Chenab, and Jhelum. Only Sutlej, Ravi and Beas rivers flow in today's Punjab of India. The other two rivers are now flow in the state of Punjab, situated in Pakistan.

Fairs & Festivals of Punjab
Punjab being a predominantly agricultural state of Indian. This state prides itself on its food grain production. It is little wonder that it’s most significant festival is Baisakhi, which marks the arrival of the new harvesting season. For the Sikhs, Baisakhi has a special importance because on this day in 1699, their tenth guru, Guru Gobind Singh established the Order of the Khalsa.
The Gurpurab festival which is celebrated by the Sikhs is a reverence for their gurus. There are two major Gurupurab will be celebrated. First is in the Hindi Month Kartik and second s in the Hindi month of Pausa. First gurupurab is related to Guru Nanak and second is the birth anniversary of Guru Govind Singh.
Every year after Holi Holla Mohalla festival is celebrated where thousands of devout Sikhs gathering at Anandpur Sahib. Where Guru Gobind Singh was started to participate in the grand fair of Holla Mohalla.
Like others festivals of Punjab, Lohri too is a festival related to the seasons. This festival is celebrated on every year 13th Jan. This festival is marked as an end of the winter season. In this festival a huge bonfire is made in every house and worshiped to the god Fire.
Best Time to Visit
The state Punjab has three major seasons i.e. summer, monsoon, and winter like other parts of India.. Summer remains in this state from April to June and the heat is unbearable at that time. Monsoon touches this state in the month of July and remains in action till September. Most of the rainfall in the state occurs during Monsoon season only. The annual average rainfall is 770 mm. winters comes in October and remains till March and extreme cold can be experienced at this time.
Tourist Attractions
The most important tourist center in the state is Amritsar with its Golden Temple. This temple is considered as the holiest place of all the pilgrimages of Sikhism and houses Akal Takht is the supreme governing body of Sikhism. The Jalianwallah Bagh is a small park in the city where many pilgrims were massacred by the British police in the year 1919.
